The Commonwealth Association of Architects is delighted to welcome back Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) as a member. The decision to re-join the CAA follows a successful meeting between Steven Oundo (CAA President) and Mark Abbot (NZIA Interim CEO) ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which took place in Samoa in late 2024. Following their readmission, Huia Reriti (Perehitini, NZIA), said: “A growing number of our members are participating in the global architecture space and the CAA provides a vehicle for them to connect and network. While geographically isolated, we have a lot to contribute, and CAA membership supports our intent to advance cultural diversity in the profession and enrich the built environment for all.”

The CAA looks forward to collaborating with the NZIA and the contributions its members will make to our initiatives in advancing societal wellbeing. The CAA is also grateful to the work of Vince Pirrello (Vice-President, Pacific) who has actively been engaging in dialogue with the NZIA in recent months.
The CAA extends its congratulations to Huia Reriti as Perehitini, President, and the first Māori to hold the role.
