Call for Submissions – AI in Architecture: Exploring the Real-Time Impacts on Built Environment Practice & Education

As part of the 2026 Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) General Assembly to be held as part of in:Situ, the Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Conference from 7-10 September 2026 in Auckland, New Zealand, the CAA invites students, early-career professionals, academics, and practitioners from across the Commonwealth to contribute to its 2025–26 initiative on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Architecture.

Submissions may include short papers, sketches, infographics, creative writing, case studies, or short video pieces addressing AI’s impact on design, education, research, and professional practice. Selected work will be featured in a digital showcase as part of the conference proceedings and form the basis of roundtable discussions during the 2026 CAA General Assembly.

Suggested Topics 

The overarching theme of this initiative and call for submissions is to explore the opportunities, risks and evolving professional responsibilities around the use of artificial intelligence by architects and built environment professionals across the full spectrum of the profession and may include, but is not necessarily limited to:

  • AI-assisted design, visualisation, and analysis
  • Ethical concerns: authorship, data transparency, and bias
  • AI in construction, fabrication, and project delivery
  • Educational shifts and future professional competencies
  • Case studies from practice and academia
  • Regional perspectives on access, challenges, and adoption

Who Should Submit

This invitation for contributions is open to all architects, designers and built enviornment professionals who have worked with AI-assisted design software, have been involved in shaping policies around AI regulation and who are generally interested in how AI is reshaping the architecture and built enviornment professions.

The CAA welcomes submissions from academic researchers, built enviornment professionals, architecture students, graduates, and emerging practitioners from across the Commonwealth.

Submission Format & Deadline 

To enhance the diversity of submissions and exploration of AI in Architecutre, the CAA encourages the submission of a diverse range of materials, such as but not limited to:

  • Short Opinion Articles or Abstract Papers (500 – 1,500 words)
  • Sketches, Diagrams, Conceptual Drawings
  • Infographics or Data Visuals
  • Creative Writing Pieces or Speculative Narratives
  • Digital Media (Audio-Visual) Submissions (Maximum 3 minutes)
  • Practice- or Research-Based Case Studies

Submission Formats:

  • Written materials should be submitted in either Microsoft Word (.doc / .docx) or PDF format (.pdf)
  • Visual materials (images/graphics) should be submitted as readable image format (.jpg / .png)
  • Audio-Visual materials (videos) should be submitted as .mov / .mp4
