Historic milestone recognises six decades of activity while charting the future of sustainable architecture across the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) is pleased to announce the launch of its 60th Anniversary celebrations, marking six decades of fostering architectural excellence, collaboration, and innovation across the Commonwealth. This upcoming year of celebration will culminate in the CAA General Assembly, to be hosted by Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects in September 2026.
Our anniversary campaign themed around Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: 60 Years Forward, will feature a series of engaging events designed to celebrate the association’s rich heritage, whilst emphasising the critical role of architecture in addressing contemporary global challenges including climate change, rapid urbanisation and social inequality.
Announcing the 60th Anniversary celebrations, CAA President, Steven Oundo, remarked:
“As we celebrate 60 Years of the Commonwealth Association of Architects, we reflect not only on our remarkable journey but also on our responsibility to help shape the next 60 years of architectural practice. This anniversary represents an opportunity to showcase the many different ways in which architects are contributing to sustainable development and helping to transform communities across the Commonwealth, whilst also inspiring the next generation of architects to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.”
The campaign will showcase a range of projects and initiatives from across the Commonwealth, demonstrating how local architects are addressing global challenges through innovative practices and design solutions. Our online programme will provide a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, capacity building and the exchange of best practice in sustainable architecture.
A specially commissioned 60th Anniversary logo has been created to mark this historic occasion, symbolising the association’s commitment to both honouring its heritage and embracing future opportunities.
Established in 1965, the CAA represents architectural institutes from across the Commonwealth, promoting excellence in architecture, urban planning, and sustainable development. The association works to advance the profession by means of advocacy, capacity building and climate action amongst practitioners, policymakers and academia. The CAA’s efforts were recognised earlier this year, when it was nominated for the 2025 King’s Foundation International Impact Award.
The CAA’s 60th Anniversary celebrations will culminate in its General Assembly, to be held in late 2026 in New Zealand and will serve as the capstone event, bringing together architects, planners, and built environment professionals from across the Commonwealth to celebrate achievements and chart the course for the association’s future.
Further information about the 60th Anniversary celebrations and upcoming events, will be shared in the coming months on our website, newsletter and social media channels.
